The EFRA Event Coverage & Promotion Working Group Opens for Business

A busy meeting, this image only includes about two thirds of our members. Thank you to all who continue to give of your time!

EFRA’s big development plans for the sport of RC continue to move forward and we are pleased to announce that our open forum meetings on Event Coverage and Promotion have begun.

As EFRA president Javier Garcia outlined at our AGM – Every area of our organisation, infrastructure and core goals are to be strategically examined, evaluated and developed as we look to the future of RC racing in Europe. Whilst we believe that EFRA’s values, constitution and rich heritage have never been more important, we also know (after 2020 more than ever) that the way in which people consume media, take part in events and share experiences is constantly changing. Therefore the RC hobby, the sport and the industry built around it, needs EFRA to move with the times.

The Development Plan is separated into several key areas from media, to event presentation and formats, to our economical structure and perhaps most importantly young people’s initiatives. During 2020 working with CTRL, we engaged with key representatives outside of EFRA in a working group focused on a complete evolution of our brand identity. This process has now been approved by the EFRA board and subject to a trademarking process, the new logo will be revealed in the coming weeks with the transition taking place over the 2021 racing season.

The next step in the Development Plan has been to assemble a large group of individuals from racers of many classes, to MYLaps with a range of timing software providers, Federations, RC manufacturers, race officials, referees, organisers and media professionals to all have their say on key topics around EFRA events coverage and how to better promote them.

As with the Brand Identity working group it has been very important that the process focuses on the views and suggestions of a wide range of representatives outside of EFRA while a few members of the EFRA board do participate in order to listen and provide context and background information where needed.

Well, as you might expect our first meeting was a lively one! With many opinions and perspectives to consider with a wealth of experience in all aspects of events, marketing and media. Key topics covered were:

  • What areas of EFRA event coverage need the most improvement
  • Should our focus in livestreams be more on RC fans or newcomers
  • What type of media would be most appealing to newcomers
  • What media activities would be of most value for Associate Members
  • Outside of events what type of regular EFRA media would be of most valuable

Without question the biggest topic for the group was, “Who should we target as our most important audience in event coverage and promotion and how should we approach them?” With this in mind we’re inviting you to have your say!

If you’d like to get involved, please take a moment to fill out this questionnaire here covering some key decisions faced by our group!

The next stage for the group will be to meet again in the coming weeks and then split off into sub groups so that members can directly focus on their own expertise and progress in their area.

Stay tuned for more updates from the EFRA Development Plan!
