EFRA 1/12th Championships - Finals Report

Hagberg and Honigl victorious in Slovakia.

Alex Hagberg and Hupo Honigl both converted their respective pole positions to victory at the EFRA 1/12th European Championships, here at the fantastic Hudy arena in Slovakia.

Alex was imperious in taking a 2 leg victory in the modified class to retain the championship the Swede won last year in Italy. Hupo also won in 2 legs, the Austrian taking a first win for new chassis supplier Serpent only weeks after joining the team.

Modified:

Alex Hagberg took Xray to the top of the podium at their “home” track winning the first 2 legs of the A final, but it was far from straightforward. A slight Jump start caused by “nerves” saw him receive a stop-go penalty that dropped him to 4th at the end of lap 2, but he battled back to the lead, aided by a mistake from chief rival Juho Levenhen, and then held that advantage for the rest of the leg.
The second leg was more straightforward with all his rivals making small errors on the incredibly demanding Hudy arena circuit, Alex cruising to a 5 second win, made more remarkable by the discovery after the race of a severely damaged front Wheel. Olly Jefferies took second after a fantastic pass of Markus Mobers that had the assembled crowd roaring their appreciation.
With the win in the bag Alex sat out the final leg, which allowed Juho to finally show the pace he’s had all weekend, despite a strong challenge from Xrays Olly Jefferies the Associated driver resisted his attentions, and then pulled away as the Brit hit trouble to take 2nd overall .

Stock:

Hupo Honigl won his 7th European championship with a 2 leg victory in the Stock (13.5 Turn Motor) championship. It was however not all plain sailing as he mysteriously lost some pace over night, (his words!) and hence needed to fend off 2nd qualifier Mike Gosvig whose machine was notably quicker – but also more prone to the odd accident. After an incredibly close leg one, an early error in leg 2 by Mike handed the championship to the Austrian who also then sat out leg 3 allowing Mike to take and easy win and 2nd in the championship.
Completing the podium was CRC racer and employee Brian Wynn who traveled all the way from New York for the event, hopefully we’ll see more international entries in the Stock championship in the future.
