Jörn Neumann is the NEW 1:10 2WD European Champion!

We have a brand new European Champion in 1:10 2WD!
The A Finals are completed and the trophies have been handed out, and it is official: Jörn Neumann is the NEW 1:10 2WD European Champion!

Starting on pole position after a brilliant set of qualifying runs, Jörn had the British pairing of Lee Martin and Neil Cragg behind him in 2nd and 3rd place on the grid - both of them had been 2WD Champions for the last 6 years between them, so they were always going to be a threat! However, before the Finals Jörn had told us that with 3 4WD European Championships under his belt he was anxious to get his first 2WD Championship to take home.

In the first A Final, Jörn drove a perfect race, pushing a bit to build up a gap to Lee and then maintaining the gap as Neil recovered from a couple of minor tumbles to run a couple of seconds behind Lee. Lee told us after the race that he felt that he and Jörn were evenly matched in this race, but he didn't want to push just in case he made a mistake and let Neil through. Jörn won the race with Lee and Neil in 2nd and 3rd.

The second A Final saw Jörn once again pull out a good lead, which he maintained over Lee until the end of the race. Neil was caught up by traffic, at one point swallowed up by the chasing pack until he was able to pull ahead and eventually finish 4th. David Ronnefalk finished 3rd in this race but with an 8th place in the first race would have to finish very well indeed to be in with a chance at the podium.

Two wins out of three races meant that Jörn would be officially crowned the 2013 1:10 2WD European Champion, the first new Champion since 2010!

At this point Lee had two 2nd place finishes and Neil had a 3rd and 4th. The only driver who could threaten them for a podium position was countryman Darren Bloomfield, who'd finished 4th and 6th from 6th on the grid.

The third A Final saw a huge amount of race drama as Neil led away Lee, Darren and David until a couple of big mistakes from Lee allowed Darren to get past and challenge Lee for second place. A titanic back-and-forth battle ensued for nearly half the race until Darren pipped Lee at the end of race to take second behind Neil, with Lee in third.

The Final results are:
1 Jörn NEUMANN DE
2 Neil CRAGG GB
3 Lee MARTIN GB
4 Darren BLOOMFIELD GB
5 Hupo HÖNIGL AT
6 Martin BAYER CZ
7 David RONNEFALK SE
