 Hey Laura! how did you get started in RC?
I have known this passion thanks to my father who has been practicing it for many years. One day I asked him if I could try his car. And since I was good at it I took my license. Then I started league races and CF races. Racing cars is traditionally a male dominated activity - did you find RC a welcoming environment to join? I have always been welcomed in my league and in the CF. I took some advice from people to not be impressed by others or to not let people get to me. I learned a lot of things like race techniques and even what behaviour to adopt on races thanks to all the racers. Others come to me to congratulate me when I did something good and motivated me when things are bad. There's always some racers (in minority) that do not accept the idea of women in this sport and they show it to you during races. But somehow it's a good thing because it motivates me to do better and show them are wrong they are. In the end I feel well integrated in the RC. |
 What would you say to any women reading this considering getting involved? I would like to say to all women that want to race but but don't dare to, that they don't have to hesitate. Do it ! There's always going to be someone to help them whatever the age or the level. Maybe we need more commercials that show that women have there place in this activity and to show them the way. Maybe we need to organise 100% feminine series during a championship in order to show other women are presents in this activity? Finally, as it's International Women's Day. Tell us a woman you look up to... My feminism model is my mom! She's followed and participated in races with my dad and me for many years. It allows us to have a good family time and to have a good mechanic! Thank you for your message and the interest it brings to women in this sport. See you all at the races! |
