Katja Brammertz - International Women of RC

We're in Germany for today's International Woman of RC and we're with 1/8th off road racer Katja Brammertz!
Hello! How did you get started in RC?
At first hello to everyone out there! I can say I grew up with RC cars. My father was an RC car driver and so our family were at race tracks at a lot of weekends. At first I was the pit girl of my father. But I practiced every time so that I got fast enough to participate at a race. And after this experience for me it was clear that this is my hobby. This means not only racing, but also to organise races.
Racing cars is traditionally a male dominated activity - did you find RC a welcoming environment to join?
Unfortunately it is a male dominated activity, but we are working on it ? No, I can not say that I was not welcomed. But in the beginning of my RC car time I recognised that some guys could not understand that a girl is faster than them. But the guys got used to the situation as there are some more fast girls at tracks today than in the past.

Would you like to see more women in the sport?
Of course! It would be great. But I find we are already in a good way.

What would you say to any women reading this considering getting involved?
When there is any women who is interested in RC I only can say... do it! I can only recommend it. I do not regret one RC day.

Finally, as it's International Women's Day. Tell us a woman you look up to...
I have no special woman I look up to. I admire every woman who lives their dreams (whether in a hobby, job or family.) And if she is still successful in fulfilling her dreams, respected by others and rewarded respectively, this woman is a role model.
