Jessica Pålsson - International Women of RC

As our International Women of RC week continues, today we're in Sweden with 1/8th off road up and coming star Jessica Pålsson
Hey Jessica! how did you get started in RC?
Since I was in mom`s belly RC was part of my life, my dad Micke drove RC and competed with RC almost all his life. I was often on RC tracks, listening to nitro engines, playing with dad`s RC cars. Then when I was like 5-6 years old i started to practice with dad on our home track. For fun, he played with me. I got stuck in the sport and today RC is my lifestyle that I can`t live without! It gives me joy, satisfaction, its my free zone after school... and when all goes my way and I'm on the top...it's one of the best feelings ever!
Racing cars is traditionally a male dominated activity - did you find RC a welcoming environment to join?
Yes, racing cars is traditionally a male dominated sport, I agree 100%. But I always feel welcome, accepted by many male RC drivers and I have always received help and fantastic reception on RC tracks from many. Talking on the track or running RC cars with such talented drivers, to mention a few, Davide Ongaro, David Ronnefalk, Jared Tebo and Riccardo Berton feels funny, safe and as a girl you do feel respected. But of course at every race you meet someone who thinks that girls have not to do with motorsport... Since I was a kid, I got fantastic support and help from my parents, especially dad who shares his RC experiences. Today, I do not care much about these people, I just interpret this as different cultures. Today I keep my head up, with joy every minute with my amazing hobby and focus on my driving and my RC instead....
Would you like to see more women in the sport?
Yes, I really miss more girls on RC tracks! RC is a sport for all and I think we must start work harder to get more girls in our amazing sport and hobby.
What would you say to any women reading this considering getting involved?
Do not hesitate! Try RC! RC is a sport for everyone, without limit, there are so many different classes so definitely you can find something for you. RC is not just cars, RC is social, meet people, make friends, have a great hobby and leisure. Travel. Many amazing, fun and unforgettable moments in my life are from RC! OBS! Take your time when you start, don't stress yourself, work tactically and when you're ready, start competing.
Finally, as it's International Women's Day. Tell us a woman you look up to... Two years ago I met an amazing person - Carolina Klüft, Swedish athlete, during her career, she reached her greatest success in heptathlon. At the age of 22, she became the youngest athlete so far who has conquered all five international gold medals: Olympic, World Championships (indoor and outdoor) and regional (European Championship, indoor and outdoor). An amazing person, amazing sports women and a big role model for many young people. She showed me that hard work and patience, pays off in the future.
